Day 2

After breakfast, time is spent introducing you to your machine .We will do a short half day loop to Doi Suthep to see how you get on with the bikes and back to the guesthouse.

Day 3

Heading south from Chiang Mai, we do a bit of the boring stuff before heading off the main road and onto some of the more interesting routes. The destination for the evening is Mai Na Chon, an old weaving village. We will be stopping every hour or so for a break, either fag, food or drink. There will be a lot of excellent spots for photos, so if more stops are wanted, no problem.

Day 4

More swoopy tarmac to the Mae Hong Son loop and then some even better bits of road. Over the next couple of days, we will experience a lot of the 1600 bends on the loop. We arrive in MHS quite early and there is the option of a river boat ride and a visit to the Karen hilltribe village. The night is spent by the river in the Thanachot Resort or equivalent.

Day 5

A lazy wake up today as there is not many kms to travel.

More switchback travelling on the MHS loop, stopping at Pangmapha and having the option to visit Tam Lod. This is an amazing cave system that is travelled through by boat and has an incredible vista .

After the cave experience, even more superb roads to the hippy/muslim town of Pai where we will stop the night for a bit of recuperation if you want to or explore the town and area.

The hotel this year is only a ten minute walk to the centre of town.

Day 6

Carrying on the amazing MHS loop to the end, we start heading north to Chiang Dao and the Rim Doi Resort. For those who want more caves, there is a large cave to explore, not as big as Tam Lod, but still worth a look, time permitting.

Day 7

Heading north from Chiang Dao we go right up to the Burma border and follow it around on some very steep and winding roads into Ang Khan Nature Resort.  Unfortunately, the road past Doi Ang Khan is washed away so we go back onto the 107 and onto Thaton where a night is spent by the River Kok at the Garden Home Resort.

Day 8 and 9

Still following the border and going northwards, we find more amazing roads to Mae Salong and onto Highway 1.

There are a few variations to get to Highway 1, depending on time, all of them stunning.

Onto Mae Sai, the official crossing to Burma and follow the border around to meet with the Mighty Mekong. The next two nights are at the Baan Thai resort in Chiang Saen, which is very close to the Golden Triangle and the Mighty Mekong. You can rest or have a look around or maybe take a speedboat to Laos island.

Mekong River on Day 9 of Thailand Motorcycle Tour

Day 10

Following the Mekong around to Chiang Khong, the official crossing to Laos, we head away from the river to go south to Chiang Rai and the next night at De Hug Hotel. This hotel is near the centre of town so not too far to walk.

White Temple on Day 10 of Thailand Motorcycle Tour

Day 11

Going south from Chiang Rai, there is the White Temple we stop at, still spectacular even after the devastating earthquake a couple of years ago, a most amazing Wat with the best toilets ever seen. (If they are open) More twiddly bits of road takes us to the night stop at Phayao and the Gateway Hotel. There are some good views over the lake as the sun goes down.

Day 12

A slow jaunt over the mountains to Chiang Mai and the hotel again

If anybody requires a transfer to CNX this day or the next, not a problem.
